Flametail's a very annoying character, IMO, and I'm not really a huge fan of him. Yeah, it was sad that he died so young, and I don't believe he deserved to die. But ever since his death, Flametail changed. In fact, he changed up to the point to where he became very similar to a certain character I absolutely loathe: Ashfur.

Why am I comparing these two, if you may ask? Well, they're very similar, if you really dig deeper. Don't get me wrong, it was very unfair for Flametail to die the way he did. Flametail was still young, and healthy, and Littlecloud needed him. He was a very good medicine cat, willing to put his Clan above himself, even putting his own health aside! He's willing to risk his sleep just to make sure his Clanmates were well again. He is a very loyal medicine cat.

"So why are you saying he's a good medicine cat, even though you dislike him?"

I dislike him because of the way he behaved towards Jayfeather. Remember the time when Jayfeather was trying to find him, and he nearly drowned while Spottedleaf was trying to help him? Flametail decided to act like a bitter, hostile jerk, wanting Jayfeather to drown instead just because he didn't get to live.

"Ivypool!" Flametail thrust his muzzle through the reeds. "I was looking for the path to StarClan and she tried to claw my throat out! She would have succeeded if Tigerheart hadn't stopped her! Now I'm going to let you die instead!" - The Last Hope, page 183

Flametail took a step forward, then stopped, his eyes burning. "I know how you feel." - The Last Hope, page 182

It's very similar to the whole Ashfur situation, IMO,  because he wanted Jayfeather to die just because he didn't save him, and Ashfur wanted Squirrelflight to feel the pain "she made him feel". While the situations are entirely different, both Flametail and Ashfur wanted Squirrelflight and Jayfeather to either die or feel the pain that they have felt.

Anyway, Flametail also thought that just because he's a medicine cat, he could go where he wanted. Um, honey, you have to follow the warrior code too. Just because you're a medicine cat doesn't mean life is full of sunshine & rainbows:

Flametail spotted a group of ThunderClan cats stepping gingerly onto the ice near their territory. He didn't care. There were no boundaries on the lake. Anyway, he was a medicine cat. He could go wherever he chose.
- Night Whispers, page 279

Yes, medicine cats are allowed to cross territories, but for a good reason.  You can't just take advantage of your rank and go wherever you want.

Also, can I mention that he bullied Lionblaze for "killing" Russetfur? Russetfur dying wasn't even Lionblaze's fault! Of course, Flametail couldn't have known that. He wasn't there. But it was uncalled for to remind Lionblaze of the mistake he made:

Cinderheart's paws sounded behind Lionblaze. "This is our territory now," she warned the ShadowClan medicine cat. You'd be wise to remember that."

Flametail snorted and padded closer, crossing the line as casually as if he were padding into his own camp. "I'm a medicine cat," he reminded them. "I can go where I please."

Lionblaze swallowed against the rage that rose from his belly. ShadowClan arrogance! "Shouldn't you be back at your camp, treating your wounded?"

"My Clanmates are well." Flametail fixed his gaze on Lionblaze. "Except for Russetfur, of course."

Lionblaze had to stop himself from leaping at the young cat. Didn't Flametail understand the significance of the battle? Didn't he understand how much it had cost both Clans?

He felt Cinderheart's tail brush his flank. "Enough," she murmured, smoothing his bristling fur. "He wants a reaction. Don't give it to him."

Lionblaze let her soft mew soothe him and pulled in his claws.

"You'd best steer well clear of ThunderClan today," Cinderheart told the ShadowClan cat. "We have to set new markers, and yours is not the only Clan that has suffered from the battle."

Flametail blinked at Lionblaze, ignoring Cinderheart. "Once I thought we were kin," he spat. "Now I'm glad we're not. I would hate to share blood with a murderer."

Uncalled for, Flametail. You took it too far there.

Flametail's behavior just disgusts me. He's willing to let Jayfeather die even though Jayfeather TRIED to save him, and bullied Lionblaze over something he felt guilty for, AND took advantage of his medicine cat rules and decided to cross territories wherever he wants. This cat sickens me.

And you know what's funny? Flametail SAW Rock tell Jayfeather to let him go! So really, Flametail has no right to behave the way he did with Jayfeather!

Then Flametail saw another pair of eyes. Bulging and white. There was a third cat in the water. A grotesque creature. Hairless and scarred. Flametail stared at it as it seemed to float beside them. A tiny part of his mind wondered if this was a StarClan cat he hadn't met yet. But did any warriors, past or present, ever look like that?

The ugly cat reached toward Jayfeather.

Let him go!

Flametail heard the voice in his head. It wasn't speaking to him. It was speaking to Jayfeather.

It is his time to die, not yours. Let him go!

- Night Whispers, page 281-282

Flametail just disgusts me. End of story.

My opinion on Flametail, the ShadowClan medicine cat. I don't loathe him, but I definitely strongly dislike him. His behavior towards Lionblaze was uncalled for, and he can't just take advantage of his rank like that.

Please respect my opinion. That's all I'm asking. Thanks!
